our history
from the Japanese Alps to the Mornington Peninsula, this is where our story with water began
Peninsula Hot Springs journey was inspired by global bathing and driven by passion
Peninsula Hot Springs originated with two brothers: Charles and Richard Davidson. In 1992 Charles, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Peninsula Hot Springs, had a transformative experience while bathing deep within the mountains of Japan at Kusatsu Onsen, inspiring him to envision a more pronounced bathing culture in Australia.
After visiting Japan in 1992, Charles developed a passion for hot springs bathing and contemplated whether outdoor baths could be established in Australia. He believed that the historic bond between nature and humanity might help others attain harmony of body and mind. Upon his return, Charles discovered that hot geothermal waters had been found on the Mornington Peninsula in 1979. By 1997, he and his brother had established Peninsula Hot Springs.
our water story
Inspired by the sand-dunes and bushland of 42 acres on the Mornington Peninsula, Charles and Richard Davidson celebrated when 54 degree hot mineral waters gushed from an underground aquifer. Water is at the heart of our story, but where did our passion begin? Continue reading to explore our full water journey.
